the last remnant stands of ancient Ponderosa Pine
forests of the Mogollon Rim to the lush spruce and fir
forests framed by the jagged peaks of the Southern
Rockies, the forests of the greater Southwest are widely
diverse in their defining character and in the threats
to their survival.
Collaborative Restoration Projects
The
Community Forest Restoration Act, sponsored by Senator
Jeff Bingaman, provides incentives for collaborative
forest restoration projects on National Forest System
lands in New Mexico. The Act creates annual grants up to
$450K over four years to create collaborative
partnerships that promote healthy forests in New Mexico.
In response to this opportunity, we submitted a new
proposal, The Santa Fe Restoration Project.

The National Forest Protection and Restoration Act
Representatives Jim Leach (R-IA) and Louise Slaughter
(D-NY) introduced the National Forest Protection and
Restoration Act (NFPRA) on July 26, 2005 to ban
commercial logging in National Forests and fund critical
