Ecosystems

"Once it is recognized - under the force of the environmental crisis - that no productive system can operate without either fitting into the ecosystem or destroying it, and that the ecosystem is necessarily a social rather than a private good, then the logic of governing production by social criteria rather than by private ones becomes equally evident."  - Barry Commoner

In 2001, Forest Guardians officially started an Endangered Species Campaign. Under this campaign, we seek new or increased protection under the federal Endangered Species Act (ESA) for species that are facing endangerment or extinction. Native animals and plants continue to decline as ecosystems crumble under the weight of far too much oil and gas exploration and extraction, livestock grazing, logging, mining, expansion of suburbs and cities, and continued threats from shooting, poisoning, trapping, fishing, and the invasion of exotic species.
